A Utah transplant of 12 years, Heidi Smith is a fiber artist and shepherdess who, until very recently, raised her own sheep, goats, bunnies and other animals for their natural fiber. She sheared, cleaned, carded, dyed and incorporated the free-range wool, cashmere, angora, alpaca, llama and mohair into her handcrafted functional garments. What she didn't raise hersel she bartered or bought from friends who had fiber producing livestock. Although her animals have all found new homes, Heidi says she still has a studio full of their fiber that will take years to work through. Heidi enjoys combining traditional fiber art techniques learned from her mother and grandmother, with some new techonologies, color-ways, and tool with suprising results at times.

Heidi lives and works on her farm with a view of the back of the Wasatch Front. Sometimes whimsical, other times intense, Heidi's inspiration for her palette always originates from the colors of the natural world and a desire to be surrounded by beauty. When not in her studio working, Heidi can usually be found roaming the mountainside with her dogs and horse.
