Owen Mortensen grew up in Logan, a small university town nestled in the mountains of northern Utah. Owen gained an appreciation for nature at an early age from the many autumn fly-fishing adventures to the Uintah and Wind River Mountain Ranges he enjoyed with his family. Owen also showed a talent for design and his family always encouraged him to develop his artistic abilities by exposing him to local art classes and seminars. In 1996 Owen attended Utah State University and gained employment at a local art and frame shop in order to pay tuition. This job taught Owen the art of matting and framing.
Owen began marketing his framed leaves at local summer art festivals and received a very positive response. His new hobby soon grew into a passion and a part time career. Working out of his apartment, Owen quickly realized that he needed a studio in which he could further develop his craft. He soon moved into his parent's barn and began to work. Owen has since shown his work through out the intermountain west and has received numerous awards and recognition for his craft and design.
"My art is a simple combination of my fascination with nature, the beauty of the outdoors, and my love of fine art and design. It is my hope that after seeing my work you will recognize the simple yet intense beauty found in the everyday objects of nature."
