The potter as an artist faces the unique challenge of drawing or painting on a three dimensional surface. As images of horses or fish encircle the surface of my pots, I see them in continual motion. I am interested in creating movement, rhythms and textures on my pottery that reflect my natural surrounding. This fascination with natural images and movement compels me to keep exploring the possibilities.

Porcelain is a hard and durable ware, designed to be used and last a lifetime. Sharon works with a high fired porcelain. Each piece is hand thrown. After the initial bisque firing to 1800 degrees, she glazes and decorates each piece and then glaze fires to 2380 degrees. True porcelain pottery is hard and durable, yet refined and beautiful. All of Sharon's glazed are lead free and nontoxic. "my work is designed to be used as well as being aesthetically pleasing. I feel the function of the work enhances its value. I enjoy the connection and intimacy of knowing my work is being used daily and appreciated by others."

Sharon, a Utah native, completed a MFA degree in Ceramics and Textiles from Utah State University in 1980. She has been a full time studio potter ever since that time. With the help of her husband Gary, and son Erik she operated Cache Valley Pottery in Millville, Utah.
