Kate Hayden is a born and bred native of Utah. In spite of her many world travels in her "wild years," she returned to Utah to raise her children because of her love of the land and the peaceful nature of Utah's people.
Kate began drawing and painting at an early age. Both of her grandmothers were quilters, and soon Kate was exploring painting on very large pieces of cotton muslin, which she then turned into quilts. "Making an art object the will keep a loved one warm is especially satisfying," says Kate. "I was never good with the squares and triangles of the wonderful traditional patterns, so it seemed natural to simply paint what was beautiful to me and then quilt it."
Kate began to work with fused glass in 1998 after the passing of her dear partner Paul. Her angels, spirit dolls, animals and kaleidoscopic images are all inspired by her love of nature, people and spirituality. Kate believes that creative energy floats all around all of us, all the time, and that occasionally one can reach up and grab an inspiration from the inexhaustible supply. She loves expanding and honing her crafts and considers herself to be very fortunate to be able to make things that others can enjoy. "I am the only one in my neighborhood that mows the lawn with a feather boa on. Eccentricity is cool."
"Creator energy take care of the quality, I just take care of the quantity."
