
My feeling is that biographical sketches should be written in first person; after all, we usually write them ourselves. So please, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Benjamin Aaron Behunin, but everyone just calls me Ben. My last name is Scotch-Irish and I have grown up pronouncing it BEE-HUN-IN, but I've been called just about everything and answer to most.
I am a native of Salt Lake City, Utah. I have always been a bit of an artist, doodling in the margins of my papers, making mud pies, carving wood and making sculpture out of discarded goods. The oldest of seven children, I learned early the importance of creativity as I played with my younger siblings and lived untamed fantasies in the open fields and gullies near my home.
In 1988 as a freshman in high school, I enrolled in my first formal art class. Once my hands hit the clay, I knew I had found something in which I wanted to excel.
After serving a mission in Germany I spent time in that country serving a potter's apprenticeship with an artist friend I had met during my time there.
I continued my art studies in Hawaii and in Utah and married the girl of my dreams. The dove into my art full-time and opened my own studio.
As of today, I have never felt better about pottery and the pots I am creating. Working on my own has given me a new chance to stretch my wings and fly with a new determination. I came up with a thought months ago that I stamped into clay and now hangs on my studio wall. It reads, "IN THE RIVERS OF SILENCE, CREATIVITY IS SPAWNED." This silence has been good for me. It gives my soul the ability to break through my thick head. Now my biggest problem is that the day only has 24 hours and a week only has seven days and the human body
